Windows 7 Convert my Win 7 laptop into a WiFi Hotspot

I recently purchased a Nokia Lumia 1520. I do not have WiFi and read that I could turn my laptop into a WiFi hotspot on this site; https://virtualrouter.codeplex.com. I followed the instructions completely and my phone could not see the new network. My laptop sees other networks and can connect to some and my phone picks up the stronger signals but not the one I created.

What am I doing wrong?

Ummm, not sure I can help but will chip in to get the ball rollin.

Before checking the site you listed (https://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/) I heard that a modern smartphone would be the fastest "WiFi` to make a `hotspot", rather than a standard laptop with older Wi-Fi inbuilt?
Did you look for an APP in the Play.store yet?
(personally I use a wireless router and get download of up to 160mb/sec and uploads of 80mb/sec on that; and I only use the phone WiFi at home for now).

Also
I am unsure from your brief message, if you want to get Internet on your phone from your laptop. If so, you must be using a LAN cable and do not have a wireless router; or?

People commenting here also might benefit from knowing....

A) What laptop (outline spec) and Operating system? W7, W8?

B) HOW does a PC (doesn`t say desktop or laptop) send WiFi if the hardware is not inbuilt? (Hence asking for the PC spec).

But I guessed you may have sorted it by now?

All I did was press a button on the wireless router to get the net on the phone.

I also find it hard to accept that a `Free lunch` is being offered. But if it is.... good luck.

I do not have WiFi at home for my phone to do system updates and that is the only way to do this. I have my computer with a wired hookup to the internet and want the WiFi for my phone to use, so I don't need any app for the phone. just a WiFi connection. I can go to a public hotspot but it would be easier if I can create the hotspot from my laptop.
The laptop is Win 7 Home and is a Asus X53E.
I hope this clears things up a little.

Thanks for any help!

Did you try re-booting the phone?

See if the app you installed works better that way? Some apps don`t work until a re-boot. Re-boot the PC also.

Note also; sometimes a Firewall can affect things.

Try this if all else fails?

It’s a lot more stable and a smaller footprint, nice job.

Alternatively; the site says this will bypass all your problems.

I am not trying to install any app or anything on my phone, I just want the phone to connect to WiFi from my computer.

The Idea about the firewall stopping the connection is a possibility. I will check it out. I did though reboot the computer and nothing changed, but since I was not trying to install anything on my phone I do not see what rebooting it would help, as I just want it to connect to WiFi.

I finally got the mobile hotspot to work by using a free program named "Virtual Router Manager v1.0". One problem my laptop had was I had a Intel Wireless driver that was preventing me from enabling "Intel My WiFi" but I rolled back the driver and it would stay enabled. Then that network showed up on my phone and after entering the password on the phone it connected.

I know there is a way to mark a thread as Solved but I can't find it.
Anyway this problem is solved and thanks to all who replied with help...
