Windows 7 Copying files to network location hangs with "5 seconds remaining"

Hi,

When I try to copy large files (over 100 megabytes) to a network location, files begin to be copied, but soon hang after "5 seconds remaining" appears in the copy progress dialog.

I can copy smaller files without problems.

I've tried this on two laptops: one with Windows 7 Home Edition and one with Windows 7 Enterprise edition.

By contrast, I can copy large files to said location from my work PC, which is based on Windows XP. But I'd need to be able to do that from home as well.

What could be the problem when copying large files?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Vesa

How are you copying the files? Someone the other day was using the clipboard, which I thought might have caused a problem. I normally just right click and send to or drag and select copy.

Is it possible to move these files to the same destination without the problem?

OK, I will assume you have the space available to copy such files.

Are the files of any specific type, or any specific owner?

Have you tried renaming the files prior to copying?

Hi Saltgrass,

Yes, space is not the problem. It seems that the file size is the issue. For example, I can copy smaller .bin files but not the larger ones. I haven't tried renaming yet - I'll do that.
