Core Group has opened a Microsoft Surface Reseller Programme for small and mid-sized IT partners in South Africa, offering access to Surface for Business devices alongside training, technical assistance, sales enablement and marketing support.
The initiative is aimed at channel partners that want to add Surface hardware to their business portfolios without building a direct relationship with Microsoft. Core, which describes itself as an authorised Surface distributor, will handle the programme’s onboarding and partner support. Applications are open to resellers that can demonstrate customer engagement, technical capability and an ability to support customers, according to a Core Group-promoted report published by TechCentral on July 17.
For participating partners, the immediate value is less about a new Surface model and more about a route into Microsoft’s commercial device channel. Resellers can package Surface systems with Microsoft 365, Windows management, cloud services and deployment or support contracts—an approach likely to be more relevant to smaller managed service providers than standalone hardware sales.
Core says partners will have access to the full Surface for Business portfolio, including Copilot+ PCs. Those systems use neural processing units for supported on-device AI workloads in Windows, including features and applications that can take advantage of local AI acceleration.
That positioning matters because the programme gives resellers a commercial path to sell AI-branded Windows devices alongside the management and productivity stack businesses already use. It does not, however, change the practical requirements of deploying Copilot+ PCs: buyers still need to assess hardware specifications, Windows edition and management policies, compatibility with existing peripherals and line-of-business applications, and whether the available AI features justify the premium over conventional business PCs.
Surface devices are generally positioned at the higher end of the Windows hardware market. For smaller resellers, Core’s offer of device access, enablement and promotional support may reduce some of the operational burden of carrying that portfolio, though the company has not disclosed partner margins, minimum sales targets, inventory requirements or the exact benefits attached to the programme.
The announcement is a channel-development move rather than a Microsoft product launch or a change to Windows licensing. Existing Windows and Surface customers do not need to take action.
South African resellers interested in the programme can register their interest through Core’s Surface Reseller Programme application process.

Channel opportunity, not a new Windows platform
Core is pitching the programme as a way for South African SMEs in the IT channel to create new service revenue in areas such as device management, consulting, technical support and productivity deployments. John Press, Surface business unit head at Core, said the company wants to develop “strong, collaborative partnerships” that create mutual growth and customer value. The announcement is a channel-development move rather than a Microsoft product launch or a change to Windows licensing.
