Crash BSOD after about 30 seconds of gaming in Crossfire

I will attempt to post as much information about the BSOD as I can.

This has become really distressing and is basically forcing me to play games with one card off.

It's been doing this since I've built the machine and the only remedy I've found is to just play the games with 1 card

System specs are as follows

Windows 7 Ultimate Black Edition
Asus Sabertooth 990FX Motherboard with latest bios revision 3/26/12
16GB DDR3 by Corsair Vengeance
Corsair AX750w gold rated PSU
AMD Fx 8120 at stock speeds cooled by Corsair H80
Twin bluray burners
Twin XFX Radeon HD 6950 2gb cards in xfire. Latest AMD Vision revision
Not a whole lot of other stuff attached other than a couple of usb devices if this could be a power concern.

Here is the event data.
Event Viewer reports it as Event-ID 41 "Kernel-Power"

I've uploaded some dump files and also a picture of the bluescreen. If you need any more information, please feel free to ask :3

Hi Melkiah and Welcome to The Forum.

Usual causes:
Video driver, overheating, bad video card, ?BIOS, ?Power to card.

You're getting a Stop Error Code 116
(Link) "It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash. As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds. If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating. Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU. Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference. If so, it might be as simple as dust build up and subsequently inadequate cooling." - H2SO4
Ensure that none of the hardware is being over-clocked.
Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. Chase out those dust bunnies!
And make sure you are not "over clocking" your graphics with CCC (bears repeating!!)!

As a Priority:

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct AVG Remover for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to download and run it anyway). Download BSOD friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as AVG's replacement.
Uninstall AVG through the Control Panel. Re-boot to Safe Mode and run the AVG Removal tool(s). Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled! After your blue screens have been resolved, feel free to re-try AVG.

Drivers that pre-date Windows 7. Update:

GEARAspiWDM.sys Mon May 18 13:17:04 2009 Gear Software CD-ROM Class Filter Driver v4.019.1 (Oct 2011). Also loads with iTunes

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

Just uninstalled all the ATI drivers, swept them all out, reseated both cards into slot 1 one at a time and benched them with no BSOD on each
Both are perfectly clean and sexy!
Now attempting crossfire with heaven bench to try to reproduce the bug and hopefully end up nil on that

Keeping my fingers crossed.
After that I will uninstall AVG and keep doing this until I don't get this anymore

To no Avail, after about 1 minute in heaven bench on full max settings, trying to draw as much power out of the cards/system as I can, I got a crash recovery message, than it went to ATIMPKAG.sys bluescreen.

Removing AVG and following your tips and going to run again, here is a new dump
Also, my house is sitting at 69F and my case is wide open.

I'm starting to worry that this is an insufficient power issue.
It's also worth noting that my C drive "SSD" is pretty much full.
Maybe this is causing an issue not being able to write sufficiently temp info to this drive.

Surprisingly enough, after removing AVG antivirus, Heaven Benchmark was able to run FULL TILT for at least 10 minutes before getting this error (NOT BLUESCREEN)
D3D11AppWindow::swap_window(): device removed.
Simple search goes to this
d3d11AppWindow::swap_window:device removed - Unigine Benchmark crash on 560Ti

Could all of these problems be related to voltages?

I'm going to run another intense game to try to reproduce the bug.

After running the heaven benchmark and getting that error (in above post) I decided to try to run "Witcher 2".

Game wouldn't start and instantly crashed to same blue screen.

This did the same thing to me last time, and earlier.

Seems like if I try to run another game after that DX error, it will bluescreen.

here is the newest dump, thanks a bunch Elmer.

Set a regi$try value TdrDelay to 10.
Just took longer to [email protected] to the bluescreen.
No recovery whatsoever.

I'm going to go ahead and attempt to answer my own question here.

Looking at the amperage requirements and the output on my PSU, it seems I might be lacking in the power department, even with a 750w Gold rated PSU from Corsair.

That would explain why crossfire works fine under fair loads, but crashes under full load.

The electrical requirement isn't being met, and therefor creates a hang in windows.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and bent on this as I go shell out 200 dollars for a 1000W psu with enough amperage to cover everything in my box.

I hope you come to the same conclusion on this Elmer with the Dump files I sent you.
