Solution
It seems like you are experiencing an issue with accessing the Device Manager in Windows Vista Ultimate through the typical method of right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties." While the Device Manager opens correctly when you use the "devmgmt.msc" command in the "Run" dialog box. To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

Method 1: Check System Settings

  1. Check Group Policy: There might be a Group Policy setting preventing the Device Manager from opening as expected. To check this:
    • Press Windows Key + R to open the "Run" dialog box.
    • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
    • Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage...

    • Ensure that the "All Removable Storage classes: Deny All Access" setting is set to "Not Configured" or "Disabled."
    []Run System File Checker:
    • Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter to run the System File Checker tool to detect and repair corrupted system files.

      Method 2: Registry Check

    ]Registry Editing:
    • Press Windows Key + R to open the "Run" dialog box.
    • Type regedit and press Enter.
    • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers.
    • Check if there are any third-party context menu handlers that might be causing the issue.

      Method 3: Create a Shortcut

You can also create a shortcut to access the Device Manager easily:
[]Right-click on the desktop. []Select New -> Shortcut. []Enter devmgmt.msc as the location of the item. []Click Next and give the shortcut a name like "Device Manager."
  2. Click Finish to create the shortcut.

Method 4: User Account Control (UAC)

Sometimes User Account Control settings can interfere with certain system functions. You can try adjusting the UAC settings to see if it resolves the issue. After trying these steps, if the issue persists, it might be beneficial to perform a comprehensive malware scan using antivirus software to ensure that the system is clean and secure. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any issues during these steps!
