There is an app for my webcam (CyberLink You Cam) that requires this update on my HP desktop. But on this Dell, I've yet to run across a component that requires this software.

The NET Framework 4 takes a bit to install, not counting the numerous updates to it that takes quite some time to install. As long as I don't have an app that needs it, do I really need NET Framework 4?

There have been some users reporting that this update provides better security. But if that were so, then why are they're so many updates to the program in regards to the computer being taken over or "hijacked"?

No you don't need or WANT it unless you have a win7 machine networked to a winXP machine... note that it will also slow down your system. I had to install it to run star wars knights of the old republic & regretted it.
