I downloaded Windows 7 Professional 64-bit online and ran the executable (I am running inside of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RC version) . It created the expandedSetup folder and opened the install window. The only options I have are 'Install' and 'What to know before installing Windows'. If I click 'Install' I get the following error message:

"Windows Setup cannot find a location to store temporary installation files. To install Windows, make sure that a partition on your boot disk has at least 814 megabytes (MB) of free space.

Error code: 0x80070490"

I have plenty of space on all my partitions. My drives look like this:

Disk 0
Letter/Type: Size: Free Space:
D:/NTFS 680 GB 396 GB
SWAP 2 GB
JFS 78 GB 61 GB
JFS 15 GB 10 GB
C:/NTFS 156 GB 97 GB (has Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RC installed)

Disk 1
Letter/Type: Size: Free Space:
-/NTFS 100 MB 72 MB (System Reserved)
Unallocated 700 GB

I do not have the installation discs, just the download files, and I can not burn an ISO to disc because there is no ISO. I am not sure how to proceed.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

bump?

i had the exact same problem.
installed fine on one machine, but not another.

both are dual booting XP and Win7 (or at least one is at the moment.)

Its not even asking me which partition to install on. When I begin the install process, I get the big font "extracting temporary files" message, and then BAM! "Cannot find where to put temporary files."

One hard drive (WD Caviar Blue)
C: has XP
D: will be Win 7
both partitions 70gb

resized and created D: partition with EASEUS Partition Master 4.1
