Hi

Today I pulled the hard drives out of my lightning zapped computer.
I'm happy to say that it was easier then I imagined.

You don't even have to open the case.

You remove a large wireless plugin fan from the front of the computer and the hard drives are right there. The retaining bar folds out to make a handle and they slide right out.

I plugged the drives into the USB converter and connected them to my wife's laptop and they both read fine, no hassles.

I backed up about 100 Gb of stuff that I needed just to be safe.

When the new computer arrives I'll plug them into that and transfer the data directly.

My new monitor arrived today so when the new computer gets here I'm good to go.

I have to say that the Apricorn universal USB connector worked great, I recommend it if any one needs something like this.

Now that I know my data is safe I'm starting to get excited about getting my new computer.

I promised myself I won't start messing with the stereo 3D stuff until I get everything up and running.

It will probably take me a week to do that.
And for the first time I will have only Windows 8 installed.

I've had so many duplicate programs and stuff installed it's been kind of a pain, it will be nice to have that all cleaned up.

It's great to hear that you were able to recover your hard drives from the lightning-struck computer with ease! Using a USB converter to connect them to your wife's laptop for backing up your important data was a smart move.

Here's a summary of your tasks and progress:

1. Data Backup: Backed up around 100 GB of important data from the hard drives as a safety measure.
2. Upcoming Setup: Planning to connect the hard drives to your new computer when it arrives to transfer data directly.
3. New Monitor: Your new monitor has arrived, so you're all set in that department.
4. USB Connector: Pleased with the performance of the Apricorn universal USB connector and recommended it for others.
5. Future Plans: Looking forward to setting up your new computer before delving into stereo 3D activities. Expecting the setup process to take about a week.
6. Windows 8: Planning to have only Windows 8 installed on your new system, aiming for a clean setup without duplicate programs.

It's always exciting to start fresh with a new computer setup, especially with the prospect of a cleaner and more organized system. If you need any guidance or assistance during your setup process, feel free to reach out!
