Windows 7 Firewire device disconnects momentarily when another is plugged in

I have my firewire audio interface plugged into a firewire 400 pci-e card, and whenever I plug another device into that same card, the interface will disconnect momentarily.

The card isn't supplying bus power at all, so I'm wondering if it's a fault of the card, or perhaps my mobo?

It's a TI card, which is supposedly the most reliable.

Any help would be appreciated.

When you encounter issues where plugging another device into the same FireWire card causes your audio interface to disconnect, it could be due to several factors. Here's what you can consider to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Power Supply:

  • Check if the FireWire card is receiving sufficient power. Some PCI cards may have power issues. Ensure it's seated correctly in the PCIe slot with a stable power connection.

    2. Resource Sharing:

  • Possible resource conflicts might occur when multiple devices are connected. Check the motherboard's specifications on sharing PCIe lanes and make sure other devices aren't overloading the bus.

    3. Driver Updates:

  • Ensure your FireWire...

    2. Resource Sharing:

  • Possible resource conflicts might occur when multiple devices are connected. Check the motherboard's specifications on sharing PCIe lanes and make sure other devices aren't overloading the bus.

    3. Driver Updates:

  • Ensure your FireWire card and audio interface have the latest drivers. Outdated drivers can cause stability issues. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers.

    4. FireWire Cable and Ports:

  • Check the FireWire cable and ports for any physical damage. Make sure they are clean and properly connected to avoid intermittent disconnections.

    5. PCIe Slot:

  • Test the FireWire card in different PCIe slots on your motherboard to check if the issue persists. A faulty PCIe slot might cause connectivity problems.

    6. BIOS Settings:

  • Review the BIOS settings related to PCIe devices. Ensure the configuration is optimized for FireWire card operation.

    7. Updated Firmware:

  • Check for any firmware updates for both the FireWire card and the audio interface. Firmware updates can enhance compatibility and performance.

    8. Compatibility Check:

  • Verify compatibility between the FireWire card and the audio interface. Some combinations may not work well together due to chipset or interface differences. By systematically checking these factors, you can narrow down the issue causing your audio interface to disconnect when another device is connected to the FireWire card. If the problem persists, it's recommended to reach out to the manufacturer's support for further assistance or consider testing with a different FireWire card or audio interface to isolate the issue.
