Recent reports have highlighted significant performance issues with Microsoft Excel, particularly following the June 2025 updates. Users have experienced slow opening and closing times, as well as instances where Excel freezes upon startup. Investigations have identified Trend Micro's Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS) agent, specifically version 6.7.3981/14.3.1311, as a potential culprit.
A notable case involves a user who observed that after updating to the specified Trend Micro version, Excel's performance deteriorated markedly. The program exhibited prolonged startup times and frequent unresponsiveness. Upon reverting to a previous version of the WFBS agent (6.7.3981/14.3.1299), the issues were resolved, suggesting a direct correlation between the Trend Micro update and the Excel performance problems.
Further complicating the situation, the Adobe PDF Maker add-in has also been implicated. Users reported that disabling this add-in significantly improved Excel's responsiveness, reducing loading times from 30 seconds to approximately 2 seconds. The specific add-in version in question is 25.1.20531.0, released on June 6, 2025.
These findings underscore the importance of monitoring software updates and their interactions with other applications. Both Trend Micro and Adobe have been made aware of these issues, and users are advised to stay informed about potential patches or updates that may address these compatibility concerns.
