This is a big issue now, with many PC producers providing partition recovery sections rather than discs. And the discs they permit us to make are not true OS discs.

If the upgrade path will require that I have a Vista disc, then I am going to uninstall W7 now and go back to Vista, because I know that I won't be able to afford a full version.

If you are considering reverting back to Windows Vista from Windows 7 due to concerns about needing a Vista disc for an upgrade path, here are some points to consider:
  1. Recovery Partition: Many PC manufacturers provide a recovery partition on the hard drive instead of physical discs to restore the operating system to its factory settings. This recovery partition can help you restore your system to its original state without requiring a separate OS disc.
  2. Upgrade Path: If you are thinking about upgrading to a newer version of Windows in the future, such as Windows 10 or beyond, having a Vista disc may not be essential. You can typically perform a clean installation of a newer Windows version without needing the previous OS installation disc.
  3. Full Version vs. Upgrade Version: When upgrading Windows, you can often choose between a full version (which can be used for a clean installation) and an upgrade version (which requires a previous Windows version already installed). If costs are a concern, you can explore upgrade options during the purchase.
  4. Compatibility: Before making any changes, ensure that the software and hardware you use are compatible with Windows Vista. Some newer applications and devices may not have drivers or support for Windows Vista. If you still decide to proceed with reverting to Windows Vista, here are the general steps you can take:
    • Back up your important data to avoid any loss during the transition.
    • Use the recovery partition or a Vista installation disc to perform a clean installation of Windows Vista.
    • Install any necessary drivers and software after the installation is complete.
    • Ensure all your data and settings are properly migrated or backed up before proceeding with the installation.
If you need any specific guidance or assistance with the transition back to Windows Vista, feel free to ask for help!
