Would you rather use 7-Zip, FreeArc, WinRAR, or WinZip? We put four of the most popular file archiving tools to the test, analyzing compression ratios and performance. Spoiler alert: WinZip 14, the latest version of this popular title, gets creamed. More

From my experience, in agreement with Tom, WinRAR is definately the best one hands down. WinZip is a relic of the past, much like Symantec/Norton AV. It lives on in marketing circles through paid magazine reviews and so on, and through brand recognition. But its absolutely horrendous. WinRAR is the absolute best, and the fact that they offer a 64-bit version is icing on the cake. Since switching to that software I have never looked back.

7-Zip for me... I just like it's simplicity and is fast too.

Absoluely 7-Zip, freeware, fast, best compression ratio, supports many formats including those of winrar and winzip, let me just give you an example:

uncompressed size 63,5 Mb
Save.rar maximum compression 11,6 Mb
Save.7z ultra compression 5,8 Mb
