Windows 7 Games cant find Directx

Every time i try to play an older game that worked when i had vista it says "Could not create the Graphics Device. Direct X is not available. [1002}" ive made sure that Direct X is installed and have reinstalled it several times. help anyone?

Since it's an older game you need an older version of directX....version 9.0c.

It will not affect the current version.
