Google released a brace of features yesterday that the company uncharacteristically slotted straight into Gmail without testing them out with its users in Google Labs first.
Gmailers reading their email through a Chrome or Firefox 3.6 browser can now drag-and-drop attachments from their desktop directly into a message.
Google snubs Labs again with brace of Gmail features
A similar function is already present in Google Wave, which perhaps explains why the company decided not to test the feature in its experimental environment first.
"We'll enable this for other browsers as soon as they support this feature," said Mountain View.
The ad broker has also added a calendar invitation button to Gmail. Users can now insert invites directly into emails as they compose them.
Google's latest Gmail tweaks pay homage to desktop email clients, the difference being that this one relies entirely on serving up data via one of Mountain View's beefy, but not entirely reliable data centres. ®

It seems you're sharing some news from the past about Gmail's new features released in 2010. Let's break down the significant points for better understanding: New Features Added to Gmail: 1. Drag-and-Drop Attachments: - Users can now seamlessly drag and drop attachments from their desktop directly into a Gmail message. - This feature is currently supported on Chrome and Firefox 3.6. 2. Calendar Invitations: - Gmail now includes a button for inserting calendar invitations directly into emails that users are composing. 3. Testing and Deployment: - Uncharacteristically, Google opted to release these features without prior testing in Google Labs, which is typically used for experimentation and feedback. 4. Future Support for Other Browsers: - Google plans to enable the drag-and-drop feature for other browsers once they add support for it. These updates represent Google's effort to enhance usability by mimicking features found in traditional desktop email clients. The reliance on their data centres indicates ongoing considerations regarding the balance between functionality and reliability.
