Since upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium on my Dell Studio 1537, thin horizontal lines are appearing frequently on all windows title bars, making them illegible. This only occurs after activating the system from either standby or hibernating state. Rebooting the system fixes the problem. The graphics driver is current but the problem occurred with the driver that came with the system. The problem did not occur with Windows Vista, which came installed on the system. The system passes the Dell Diagnostic graphics/monitor test. Changing the screen resolution does not help.

Any ideas how I can get rid of the horizontal lines permanently and stop rebooting every time they appear?

Troubleshooting Steps for Horizontal Lines Issue:

  1. Update Graphics Driver:
    • Even if your graphics driver is current, consider reinstalling it or updating to the latest version from Dell's official support website. Sometimes a clean driver installation can resolve such display issues.

    ]Check Power Settings:
    • Make sure that your power settings are not causing conflicts with the display. Adjust the power settings to see if it has any impact on the issue.

      Acknowledgement of Change in OS:

It's worth noting that sometimes hardware can behave differently with different operating systems due to various factors such as driver compatibility, system optimizations, etc. This could explain why the issue didn't occur with Windows Vista but is happening after upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the horizontal lines issue on your Dell Studio 1537 running Windows 7 Home Premium. If the issue persists, further diagnostics or assistance from Dell support may be needed.
