Hornsby Shire Council in northern Sydney is in the pilot phase of a rollout of virtual desktop infrastructure. The rollout, which is due to be completed by the end of June, will involve shifting the council's employees from Windows XP to virtual Windows 7 desktops delivered via Nutanix converged infrastructure.

Yes spend a bucket of cash employing software experts to move (UPGRADE?) from an ancient operating system into one that is just out of date. Canberra councils have been a Windows free zone for years so I suppose this "me too" was inevitable but then again Canberra has the strongest Linux community in the country and is actively teaching it in schools whereas Sydney is notoriously old school in its attitude to computers and actually still using floppies.
