Assume I have some open windows on my desktop (like WinExplorer) or others.

How can I tell Win7 to AUTOMATICALLY re-open exatly these windows after a re-start/re-boot of windows 7 ?

Resp. how can I disable it for certain wpp windows?

Solution
To automatically reopen specific windows after restarting or rebooting Windows 7 and to disable this feature for certain windows, you can use the following methods:

Automatically Reopen Windows After Restart:

  1. Use System Restore Points:
    • Before shutting down the system, create a System Restore Point with all the desired windows open. Upon restarting, you can choose to restore the system to that point, effectively reopening those windows.
[]Enable Reopen Programs on Startup (for Start Menu):
    • In Windows 7, you can set the system to reopen programs that were open when you last shut down. Go to:
      • Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization ->...

      • In the Start Menu tab, check the box for "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar" and "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu".

    ]Third-Party Applications:
    • Some third-party applications can save and restore your open windows when the system restarts. One such tool is called "Windows Layout Manager".

      Disable Reopening Specific Windows:

    []Use Task Manager:
    • You can use the Task Manager to manage startup programs and disable specific windows from reopening. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, go to the Startup tab, and disable the programs you don't want to reopen.
    [
    ]System Configuration:
    • Use the System Configuration tool (msconfig) to manage startup programs. You can go to the Startup tab to disable specific programs from starting up with Windows.
  2. Registry Edits:
    • This method requires caution. You can edit the registry to disable specific programs from reopening. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run in the Registry Editor and delete entries for programs you don't want to reopen. Always exercise caution when editing the registry, as incorrect changes can cause system instability. It's recommended to create a backup before making any modifications.
