Microsoft Edge has integrated Copilot, an AI-powered assistant, directly into its browser, offering users enhanced browsing capabilities. By default, Copilot is accessible via the sidebar, but for those who prefer a more immediate interaction, it's possible to set Copilot as the default experience for new tabs. Here's how you can enable this feature:
1. Download and Install Edge Canary:
To access the latest features, including setting Copilot as the default new tab experience, you'll need to use Edge Canary, the experimental version of Microsoft Edge.
  • Download Edge Canary: Visit the official Edge website and download the Canary Channel.
  • Installation: After downloading, install Edge Canary on your device. It will function alongside your existing Edge browser without interference.
2. Enable Copilot in New Tabs:
Once Edge Canary is installed:
  • Access Experimental Features: Open Edge Canary and type edge://flags into the address bar to access the experimental features page.
  • Search for "NTP Composer": In the search bar on the flags page, type "NTP Composer."
  • Enable Relevant Flags: You'll see several flags related to the new tab page (NTP) and Copilot, such as "NTP Composer," "Chat Ranking," "Composer Focus," and "Copilot Search." Set each of these flags to "Enabled."
  • Restart the Browser: After enabling the flags, restart Edge Canary to apply the changes.
3. Experience Copilot in New Tabs:
With these settings enabled, opening a new tab in Edge Canary will display the Copilot chat interface prominently. This setup allows for a more interactive and AI-driven browsing experience directly from the new tab page.
Benefits of Integrating Copilot into New Tabs:
  • Enhanced Search Capabilities: Copilot offers deeper insights and more comprehensive search results compared to traditional search engines.
  • Natural Language Interaction: Users can input queries in conversational language, making searches more intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Dual Navigation Options: The traditional address bar remains accessible, providing flexibility in how users navigate the web.
By integrating Copilot into the new tab page, Microsoft Edge aims to redefine the browsing experience, making it more interactive and tailored to individual user needs.
