If the machine has never had WX before then a clean install isn't an option however if it has, at leastoneonce, had WX then the key is already there and the W8 key isn't needed.
Assuming no past WX you have to upgrade the W8 to W8.1.1 before you can then install WX... starting with a blank hdd you installWX8 pro (use that key) then goto the Microsoft store with an Microsoft id from within this machine and download/ install the 8.1 free upgrade. Then you patch that to at least 8.1.1 and then download/ install Link Removed from Microsoft.
Just for your historical records:@Norway;
Win8.1.1? When did MS make this available?
<<<BBJ>>>
View attachment 31101 Sorry but no... WX will NOT install over the top of W8, but only W8.1.1 or W7 sp1
I recommend getting someone to do these steps for you as a shop will normally offer a backup of your W8 as an option and a LOT of people don't like WX after they have played with it... it's nice to have options.
- starting from W8, you log into a Microsoft account and download the free 8.1 upgrade from the Microsoft store,
- then patch that to 8.1.1
- then use the WX iso Link Removed to install WX
How do I "Perform a Clean Install of Windows 10 Pro With a Windows 8 Pro Key"?
My desktop does't even have W8 Pro or W8.1 Pro on it.
BTW, can I download and stall the WX Pro and purchase it through Microsoft?
8.1.1 is short hand for the April 2014 (KB2919355) patch also called the 8.1 upgrade patch by Microsoft... this fixed many driver issues with the free basic 8.1 upgrade from 8 and MUST be installed before you can get any more patches from Microsoft.
This patch also caused a lot of confusion at the time because it's listed as mandatory so people mistook that to be the free 8 to 8.1 upgrade was also mandatory... which is not the case.
- so if you have windows 8 then you can (but don't have to) use the free upgrade to 8.1
- IF you do upgrade 8 to 8.1 then you MUST also install this extra patch before you can continue getting updates from Microsoft and 8.1 without this patch is, in fact, unstable on many motherboards any way.

Windows 8.1 - Windows 8.1.1 Update
Hi, Uss,
My desktop does't even have W8 Pro or W8.1 Pro on it.
>>>We are very confused here; why would you be asking about an upgrade using a Win8 Pro key if you don't have that version of Windows on your computer, or any version of Windows on your Computer. What make/model of computer DO you have? Are you a linux guy trying to make the transition or just trying to put WX onto a random computer with a blank or new hard drive? <<<
So I can't "just download the WX Pro iso" and install it on my computer?
>>>If we could figure out what you're trying to do, that would be helpful. Are you trying to get a free upgrade to WX without paying for it? MS has already covered that by allowing the public worldwide to upgrade to WX for free whatever version of Windows computer you currently have, pirated OS or not. So if you have Win7/8/8.1/8.1.1 you can get it free for a year and perform either an upgrade or a Clean Install as mentioned previously; but if you want to continue using it after the free year, you'll have to cough up a Credit Card and pay MS $199.99 for WX Pro or $119.99 for WX Home. If you have an older Windows such as XP/VISTA, you cannot do any upgrade to WX, you are forced to do a Clean Install. You can then upgrade your older computer (long as it's not built prior to 2006) to WX and run free for a year--after that you have to pay to continue using WX. Bear in mind, whatever it is you are trying to accomplish, if you try WX or buy it and don't like it; you only have 30 days from the date you install WX to uninstall it. After that you'll probably need to take it to a repair shop to get back whatever earlier version of Windows you originally had on that upgraded computer. And Microsoft won't refund if you buy media or download version with a key, and you change your mind on using it.<<<
BTW, can I download and stall the WX Pro and purchase it through Microsoft? Since a W8 Pro KEY cannot be used to CLEAN INSTALL a WX.
>>>Our understanding, is YES, you can buy WX Pro for Clean Install through Microsoft Store and pay for it now.Other alternatives include buying from online software providers such as Newegg, Amazon, and ebay stores who use Digital River for their online pay-per-download distribution memes. I was going to buy one of these, but ran out of $$ this month. I'll probably get one in December so I have a better idea of how to manage and repair key-included WX systems. Hope that helps.<<<

Thanks.

Vmware on a Mac is called Fussion (link) ... the other option is Parallel (link). The other possibility is that you can run VMware on your Mac and install the WX there. Norway, what do you think?
