Hi: I reinstalled Windows Vista and now
can not connect to the internet. I am
trying to connect with XP Laptoop to PC Vista Gateway
with ethernet cable and I check the workgroup in
(Control Panel and System ) and they
are the same in XP and Vista. If there is more setup,
let me know because I been earing about Ip address, automatically
or manual and I don't know how to set
them. Also check the DEVICE MANAGER in VISTA and i have one
yellow exclamation mark next to PCI Simple
Communications Controller
Idon't know if that have to do something with the
connection, but I just let you know how DEVICE MANAGER in VISTA
doing,
Any help let me know,
Thank You.

It could very well have something to do with that device is this an OEM system? Some general system specs would be helpful. Is the device you mention listed as a network adapter what heading is it under. If it is not your network adapter what type of network adapter are you using?

Yes is a OEM system - Window Vista Home Premium, 32-bit Operating Sytem,
The connection I'm tried to make is:
The Laptop Window XP is connected to 56k dial up modem,
from 56k dial up Window XP want to connect Window Vista in
ethernet cable.

I would concentrate first on the device manager.
What heading is this malfunctioning device listed under?
Is it a network adapter or an unknown device?

Hi John,
if you know the make of your pc then you can use your laptop to find the drivers... Or if you post the make and model here, I should be able to tell you. Then it's just a case of downloading them, burning to disk or some other media and installation.

Adapters Malfunction

A note to conversation: I have an HP Notebook (2 years old now) Since the beginning my Adapters in the Device Manager read a malfunction. They are: Microsoft 6 to 4 Adapters 111,16,18,24,26,51,27,81,22,31 And Isa-tap Adapter 16,17,22,31.....I was told to ignore the warning by HP and Microsoft.

the workgroup name must be the same; it should be workgroup. That is what vista uses. Xp uses MSNHome. They both must be WORKGROUP.
