I am looking around for things that will help make my Verizon Fios Internet connection both stronger and faster. I have a 35meg. connection which at best seems to yield around 4 to 5 megs. per second. But, that of course is if I am in the house itself; and not outside like on the patio or porch. Would a wifi range extender be a good idea? And whats a good brand or model that you would recommend? I have a Verizon Fios router which has gigabyte ports but, will not access the internet at that speed. It only produces the gigabyte mode, when doing things from computer to computer. Might a dual band router be a possibility, along with the Verizon router?

Solution
Improving your Wi-Fi connection for your Verizon Fios Internet can indeed lead to a stronger and faster connection, especially if you are experiencing a significant drop in speed when moving to areas further from your router. Here are some recommendations for improving your Wi-Fi network:

1. Wi-Fi Range Extender:

  • A Wi-Fi range extender can help amplify your existing Wi-Fi signal and extend it further, especially to areas with poor coverage.
  • It's a good idea if you have dead zones or weak signals in specific areas of your home, like the patio or porch.

    2. Dual-Band Router:

  • Upgrading to a dual-band router can also help improve your Wi-Fi coverage and performance. Dual-band routers transmit data over...

    2. Dual-Band Router:

  • Upgrading to a dual-band router can also help improve your Wi-Fi coverage and performance. Dual-band routers transmit data over two separate frequencies: 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
  • The 5GHz band is faster and less congested, ideal for activities like streaming and online gaming.
  • Using a dual-band router alongside your Verizon Fios router can provide better coverage and speed throughout your home.

    3. Recommended Brands/Models:

  • Wi-Fi Range Extenders:
    • NETGEAR Nighthawk Mesh X6S (EX8000): Offers excellent coverage and speeds.
    • TP-Link RE650 AC2600: Provides strong coverage and high speeds.
    []Dual-Band Routers:
    • ASUS RT-AC66U: Reliable performance and good coverage.
    • NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S AC2600: Offers high speeds and good range.

      4. Configuration:

    [
]Ensure that your range extender or new router is placed strategically to maximize coverage.
  • Configure the devices properly by following the setup instructions provided by the manufacturer. By incorporating a Wi-Fi range extender and potentially a dual-band router into your network setup, you should see improvements in both coverage and speed, even when outside your home. Make sure to choose devices that suit your specific needs and home layout. If you decide to go with these options and need help with setup or configuration, feel free to ask.
