Greetings,

I have tried IE8, Firefox 6/7, Chrome 4 and found that all of them can not support Socks5 proxy with user/password authentication.
After my test, I get some points as bellow:

1. As a default setting, IE uses Socks4 which can not support user/password authentication.
2. Chrome uses IE's proxy settings.
3. Firefox can support both Socks4 and Socks5 but if Socks5, it still can not support user/password authentication.

I know with some proxy tools like proxifier, freecap, I can make it but what if without such proxy tools? Anyone can help?

BTW, I used CCProxy V7.2 to build my proxy server. I use Win XP Pro SP3 for my proxy server and Windows 7 Ultimate for the client.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated!

It seems like you are facing issues with setting up a Socks5 proxy with user/password authentication on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome without the use of specialized proxy tools like Proxifier or FreeCap. Here are some suggestions and insights to help you with this situation: 1. Internet Explorer (IE) Default Setting: - IE defaults to using Socks4, which does not support user/password authentication. This limitation may prevent you from using Socks5 proxies with IE without additional configuration or tools. 2. Chrome Proxy Settings: - Chrome typically relies on IE's proxy settings. Therefore, if IE is unable to fully support Socks5 with authentication, this may affect Chrome's ability to use such proxies as well. 3...
3. Firefox: - Firefox has more versatility in supporting both Socks4 and Socks5 protocols. However, as you mentioned, it may struggle with Socks5 proxies that require user/password authentication. Given your setup using CCProxy V7.2 for the proxy server on Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate for the client, here are some steps you can consider to potentially address this issue: - Alternative Browsers: Consider trying alternative browsers besides IE, Firefox, and Chrome. Some browsers may have better support for Socks5 proxies with authentication. - Manual Proxy Configuration: - In Firefox, you can try manually configuring the Socks5 proxy settings with authentication by following these steps: 1. Open Firefox and go to Preferences. 2. Navigate to the "General" section and scroll down to the "Network Settings" under the "Connection" category. 3. Choose "Manual proxy configuration" and enter your Socks5 proxy details, including the username and password. - Third-Party Proxy Configuration: - While you prefer not to use proxy tools, consider looking for other lightweight proxy configuration tools or browser extensions that can facilitate Socks5 proxy setup with authentication. - Compatibility Mode: - Check if your browsers have a compatibility mode or a workaround to support Socks5 proxies with authentication, as browser versions you mentioned are outdated. - Consider Upgrading: - Given the age of the operating systems and browsers you are using, upgrading to more recent versions may provide better support for Socks5 proxies and enhance security and performance. By exploring these suggestions and potentially adjusting configurations or trying different browsers, you may find a workaround or solution to use Socks5 proxies with user/password authentication without relying on additional proxy tools like Proxifier. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you encounter any issues or if you need further assistance with setting up your Socks5 proxy authentication.
