If you change your windows theme to classic, the start menu will follow. Or install classic shell.

I'm using Start Menu X http://www.startmenux.com/index.html --- I have the Pro.

Not sure what you mean, but this one works nicely, and it's pretty much like older Windows. Free in its basic version. Plus, it has a lot of extra - which you need not to install, very adaptable. Support is great.

Served me well for several years. And to mention, I have no attachments, financial or whatsoever to it.
