Hello, I hope someone can help me.

I recently purchased new RAM to go in my HTPC. It has worked flawlessly for over a year (custom built), with 2GB of installed ram. The motherboard has 2 slots, and I decided to buy another stick to match the one already installed. I went to google, typed in the model number, and bought it off newegg. I noticed when installing it that the RAM did not look exactly the same (different height), but I did not think much of it

So, now ever since then i have been getting these BSOD errors, c2, 0a, and 3b, all appearing as BugCheck errors in event viewer. I assumed it must be a problem with the ram but I ran 2 passes of Memtest and they both came up without errors. I am wondering if this is something else, but I am not quite technically inclined enough to make sense of the logs.

Please help! Attached are the files generated using SF Diag tools v4. My profile has some info about my setup. If you need any other specs please feel free to ask I will be happy to install whatever tools and gather whatever information would be helpful

Hi ctrlaltdel121 and Welcome to The Forum.

    STOP 0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER
    Usual causes:
    Device driver, ?Memory.

Your latest dump file lists SiWinAcc.sys as the probable cause. This is a Silicon Image driver.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

Ram is always best matched Same Manufacturer, Type, Model, Size, Batch, Timings, Etc. Preferably bought as a matched set.

    As a Priority:

Norton is known to be a cause of BSOD's on many Windows 7 systems. I suggest that you uninstall Norton using the Norton Removal Tool in Safe Mode. Download Blue Screen friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Make sure Windows firewall is enabled!

    Si3132r5.sys Wed Sep 17 01:51:09 2008
    SiRemFil.sys Wed Oct 18 23:20:39 2006
    SiWinAcc.sys Mon Nov 01 19:23:29 2004
Silicon Image drivers. Update or uninstall this software (seems these may be part of your Mobo, not 100% sure :().

hcw18bda.sys Thu Jan 28 15:30:14 2010 Huappage WinTV driver. Mentioned in one of your dmp files as the probable cause. Worth a look to see if updates are available.

Download and run CPU-Z. Take screenshots**/snips of the Mainboard tab, Memory tab and all the slot #'s under the SPD tab.
Go to Post Reply, click on the Go Advanced button and attach the screenshots**/snips to your post for all the RAM experts to see by using the paper clip you will find on the top toolbar. Do not zip them up.
    **If screenshots, please crop.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions!

So I have done all the updates you have suggested, and I am waiting to see if the blue screen re-occurs. I am wondering why adding a stick of RAM causes all these problems with outdated drivers since it ran fine before the extra RAM was added.

Attached are the CPU-Z screenshots. As you can see, the RAM is perfectly matched other than the manufacturing date.

You might want to check for an update to your 2008 bios. I can only give a link as far as the support page as you have to register to access their "tailored to your needs updates" (their words). Support

I think your ram timings might need a tweak as well. Currently set at 5-4-4-14 where I think it should be set to 5-5-5-15.

Yea I noticed the outdated BIOS, but that horrible support website won't let you get at the BIOS updates even after you register. They ask for the serial number which is, of course, on the bottom of the motherboard.

I will search for the box it came in, that might have the number. Until then, I will fix the RAM timings and hope for no more blue screens.

    Thanks again!

Well it did it again. Attached are the dump files and driver list. It seems to only be happening in windows media center, and only when i try to click something after it has been sitting for a few hours without being used. I keep this computer on all the time and just turn on my TV to use it to watch TV. When i click a recorded show, or try to exit it to do something else with the computer, that is where it SOMETIMES blue-screens.

    STOP 0x0000003B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    Usual causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory.

Your latest dump file lists Memory_Corruption as the probable cause which usually indicates out of date Drivers, incorrectly configured Memory Timings, mismatched Memory or Bad Memory.

Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

Drivers that pre-date Windows 7. Update:

    Si3132r5.sys Wed Sep 17 01:51:09 2008
    SiRemFil.sys Wed Oct 18 23:20:39 2006
    SiWinAcc.sys Mon Nov 01 19:23:29 2004
Silicon Image drivers. Update or uninstall this software (seems these may be part of your Mobo, not 100% sure :().

hcw18bda.sys Thu Jan 28 15:30:14 2010 Huappage WinTV driver. Mentioned in one of your dmp files as the probable cause. Worth a look to see if updates are available.

Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour or two so it has a cold start. Ideally let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear before that you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results.

9 passes on memtest86+, no errors. Also, the hauppage drivers and silicon drivers I already installed the latest versions of. The silicon drivers are for a PCI-e to e-SATA expansion card. I will try uninstalling those because I know they were listed as the cause of some of the blue screens before. I just don't understand why this happened upon installing the extra memory and never before.
