In Vista these two worked as expected but once in W7, they've been acting up since. Since using W7, looking in Nero 9 InfoTool showed the first drive - Read Speed 48x and Write Speed 16x while the second drive showed up as Read Speed 12x and Write Speed N/A. I've flashed them both to the latest firmware 1.06 and no change. I can't copy CD/DVD's or make a CD/DVD on the fly. Only thing worked was making the image file first then burning it separately after.

In the meantime, to see if it makes a difference, I've ordered two new Samsung SH-S223L's (SATA) from eBay after reading numerous reviews.

It seems like you're encountering issues with your optical drives on Windows 7, especially when it comes to copying CDs/DVDs or creating them on the fly. The discrepancies in read and write speeds between the two drives can indeed lead to functionality problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue: 1. Check Device Manager: - Go to Device Manager (you can right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager). - Check if there are any exclamation marks or warnings next to your CD/DVD drives. If so, there may be driver issues. 2. Update Drivers: - Right-click on the problematic drive in Device Manager and select "Update Driver." - You can also visit the manufacturer's website for your...

Update Drivers: - Right-click on the problematic drive in Device Manager and select "Update Driver." - You can also visit the manufacturer's website for your optical drive to manually download and install the latest drivers. 3. Check IDE/SATA Cables: - Ensure that the cables connecting the optical drives are securely plugged in. - If you are using SATA drives, make sure the SATA cable is firmly connected. 4. Check for Software Conflicts: - Sometimes, conflicting software can cause issues with CD/DVD burning. Ensure no other software is interfering with the burning process. 5. Test with Different Software: - Try using different software for CD/DVD burning to see if the issue is specific to the software you are currently using. 6. Test with New Drives: - Once your new Samsung SH-S223L drives arrive, test them to see if they work correctly. This will help determine if the issue is with the drives themselves or with the system configuration. 7. BIOS Settings: - Check the BIOS settings to ensure that the optical drives are detected correctly. 8. System Update: - Ensure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates. Try these steps and see if they help resolve the CD/DVD burning issues on your Windows 7 system. If the problem persists even with the new drives, further troubleshooting may be needed to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.
