I have land-line cable via Mediacom and a set-top box that controls a TV downstairs. It is also connected to a computer upstairs, and I've had no problems watching cable TV on the computer.

Unfortunately, our cable service has channels about 158--the maximum allowed channel number to add according to Media Center. Does anyone know a work-around for this? I read something about "you'll need to set up Media Center to control your set top box" but that went into no detail. Is that feasible? Or do I need a digital cable compatible computer to watch them? I am fairly certain the computer is not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like you are facing an issue with the channel limit when using Media Center to control your set-top box for cable TV viewing on your computer. Here are a few suggestions and workarounds that might help you overcome this limitation: 1. Set up Media Center for Set-Top Box Control: - To control your set-top box through Media Center, you need to set it up properly. This involves configuring Media Center to communicate with your set-top box for channel changing and viewing. You may need to consult the Media Center documentation or support for detailed instructions on how to do this. 2. Workaround for Channel Limit: - If Media Center has a channel limit of 158 and you are unable to add channels beyond that, you could try...

Workaround for Channel Limit: - If Media Center has a channel limit of 158 and you are unable to add channels beyond that, you could try the following: - Check if there are any updates or plugins available for Media Center that might extend its channel limit. - Consider using alternative software or media players that support a wider range of channels. 3. Digital Cable Compatibility: - You mentioned concerns about needing a digital cable-compatible computer. In most cases, as long as your computer has the necessary hardware (like a TV tuner card) and software to communicate with the set-top box, you should be able to watch cable TV on it. It's less about the computer being "digital cable-compatible" and more about the software and connectivity setup. Overall, setting up Media Center to control your set-top box is a feasible solution, but it might require some troubleshooting and configuration. If you encounter difficulties, contacting Media Center support or seeking guidance from online forums specialized in Media Center usage might provide more specific assistance tailored to your setup. If you have any more details about your setup or encounter specific issues during the process, feel free to provide more information for further assistance.
