Hi,

I'm a newly installed Windows 7 user. I've migrated from XP and so am currently finding out about the new features of Win7. Windows Media Centre is one of those features and having used TVersity to stream my media files over the network I thought that I'd try and give WMC a go and see how it fares.

However, I'm having troubles streaming to WMP. Is this even possible? I can stream to my 360 without any trouble but just cannot seem to get WMP on my laptop to see the files on my WMC desktop via WMC. Obviously I can ply them over a UNC share but I'd like to be able to transcode and buffer when necessary.

Am I missing something?

It's great that you're exploring the features of Windows 7, including Windows Media Center (WMC) for media streaming. Windows Media Center is primarily designed for consuming media on your local machine or through extenders like the Xbox 360, rather than as a remote media server for other Windows Media Player (WMP) instances. However, it's possible to stream media from Windows Media Center to Windows Media Player through the following steps: 1. Network Sharing: Ensure that your media files are shared on the network. You can do this by setting up your media folders to be shared on the network, so they are accessible to other devices. 2. However, it's possible to stream media from Windows Media Center to Windows Media Player through the following steps: 1. Network Sharing: Ensure that your media files are shared on the network. You can do this by setting up your media folders to be shared on the network, so they are accessible to other devices. 2. Using Windows Media Player: In Windows Media Player, you can access shared media by going to the "Stream" menu and selecting "Turn on media streaming." This allows WMP to detect and connect to shared media libraries on the network. 3. Windows Media Center Configuration: In Windows Media Center, go to the "Tasks" menu, then select "Settings," followed by "Media Libraries." Here you can add additional folders to your media library that are on shared drives or systems. 4. Media Streaming: You can then try accessing the shared media from WMP on your laptop. It should be able to detect and play the media that is being streamed from your WMC desktop. If you're still encountering issues with streaming media from Windows Media Center to Windows Media Player, you may need to check the network settings, ensure both devices are on the same network, and that sharing is properly configured on both systems. If you encounter specific errors or difficulties during this process, feel free to provide more details so that I can assist you further in troubleshooting the issue.
