On March 1, 2025, Microsoft Outlook experienced a significant global outage, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access their email accounts. The disruption began around 3:30 p.m. EST, with reports peaking at over 37,000 users affected.
The outage was not limited to Outlook; other Microsoft services, including Microsoft 365, Teams, Exchange, and the Microsoft Store, were also impacted. Users reported difficulties logging in, receiving error messages, and being unable to send or receive emails.
Microsoft acknowledged the issue, stating that they had identified a potential cause and were working on a fix. By approximately 5:30 p.m. EST, the company reported that services were being restored, though some users continued to experience intermittent problems.
This incident follows previous outages in 2023 and 2024, where Microsoft services experienced significant disruptions. In November 2024, Outlook and Teams services were restored after more than 24 hours of technical delays.
Users expressed frustration over the lack of timely communication from Microsoft during the outage. Many took to social media platforms to share their experiences and seek information.
As of now, Microsoft has not provided detailed information on the root cause of the outage. Users are advised to monitor official Microsoft channels for updates and to ensure their contact information is up-to-date to receive timely notifications about service disruptions.
