Windows 8 Modified Windows_8 ISO won't boot in VM after modification

I extracted a Windows_8 ISO and made some changes to ei.cfg. I recomposed the sources back to a bootable UDF ISO but this ISO fails to boot in a VM. I get a blank screen during boot.

Interestingly if I extract the same ISO and recompose it back again without doing any modifications then the ISO boots.
 
I'd upgrade your tools, W8 is different to W7 and you can't use the same tools i.e, using windows 7 Upgrade tool will not work.

  • Also a tipical W8 disc has two boot files... the bootmgr or the efi...and a 32bit system may need the bootsect.exe file before you can install it on a 64bit vm.
