I just purchased a new laptop with windows 7 and noticed that if I have my mouse pointer over a menu, file, link etc. it is either opened or closed depending on where my mouse is. To me this is a pretty annoying setting. Does anyone know how to turn it off?

Solution
Did you try a external mouse to see if the same thing occurs. I believe it's due to the touchpad.

There must be an option somewhere in the touch pad or mouse software to prevent this from occurring.

Go to Start > Run, and type msconfig. Uncheck all entries except for your virus scanner. It's probably loading from here.

Manufacturers place all kinds of unnecessary entries to start up with Windows.
... I have to add that I am not dbl clicking any menu, file or link, rather, the pointer is just sitting over top of an item
