Hi Guys my first post here - hopefully I have put it in the right thread?

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 on my Sony VGN-Z11VN laptop. I did the upgrade whilst the laptop was in it's docking station.

Connected to the docking station was another monitor (HP L2245WG)

Once I completed all the updates ect.. I tried to setup multiple monitors, but each time I go to the display settings there are 4 "monitors" shown. The first on is named 2, the second one is named 1 and the other two have another display not connected written in them.

I have disconnected the leads from the docking station and re-started my laptop but they still appear.

What I am after is for my laptop to be monitor 1 and the HP screen to be monitor 2, so I can use duel monitors.

Could anyone advise me on how to resolve this problem please.

Many thanks in advance (if you need a screen shot I can do one but Im not sure if it's ok to post this on the site)

Hello Paul, It seems like you are experiencing some issues with setting up dual monitors after upgrading to Windows 7 on your Sony VGN-Z11VN laptop. The display settings showing four "monitors" can be confusing, but we can fix this and set up your laptop as monitor 1 and the HP screen as monitor 2. Here's how you can resolve this issue: 1. Identifying Displays: - Make sure both monitors are connected properly. - Identify which display corresponds to each monitor. In the display settings, you should see a number on each monitor. Check the physical connections to determine which monitor is represented by each number. 2. Adjusting Display Settings: - Right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" or "Display...

Check the physical connections to determine which monitor is represented by each number. 2. Adjusting Display Settings: - Right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" or "Display Settings." - You should see the four monitor icons there. Identify the correct monitors based on your physical setup. 3. Setting Primary and Secondary Displays: - To set your laptop as monitor 1 and the HP screen as monitor 2: - Drag and drop the monitor icons to rearrange them. Drag monitor 1 (your laptop) to the left of monitor 2 (HP screen). - Select one of the monitors and check the box labeled "Make this my main display" to set it as the primary monitor (monitor 1 in your case). 4. Applying the Changes: - Click "Apply" to save the changes. - Your system should now recognize the correct configuration of monitors. If you are still facing difficulties, providing a screenshot can help diagnose the issue more accurately. As for posting it on the site, you can upload the screenshot here, and I'll guide you on how to share it if needed. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you encounter any further issues or need additional assistance!
