Windows XP Need suggestions on parental control

Hi, this really really has puzzled me for several days, so my sister has asked me to install some form of parental control on her two computers. It seems she caught her son looking at... things. I've offered to examine all these sites for suitability and got a shocking look!!! Seeing as how he's still fairly young and has very little computing expertise, parental control should be pretty effective for a good deal of years.
I was looking at McAfee Internet Security Suite, but it doesnt talk much about its parental control system. But google recommended some following: OpenDNS(a great many are talking about it, but it seems not a parental control, why?), SentryPC, Porn Blocker, K9, but I have no idea which one to use though (and the way). Pretty much all it needs to do is block questionable websites, and provide some kind of whitelist thing so it won't block cracked. Any of you has experience with such kind of? Or some other nice advice?

There are a lot of security programs that block out pornography. But they don't block filthy words or filthy videos say on "You Tube". You might try using a "Kids Search Engine". This site has some suggestions:

Many pepole think OpenDNS is good and it is a free software.SentryPC,I'm not familiar with that.
I always use Link Removed - Invalid URL.it can block unwanted website,however it's not free but affordable,I have applied it as parental control software.

A great thread. Thank you RomaLatina for these informative stuff. Really comprehensive and powerful. Cool. Well, when talking about Internet Security, may have some other good choice like Amac Keylogger(keylogger for mac).

I've used AVG FREE for years, but this year I'm running AVG 2011 Pro. It comes with "Family Safety" which can block bad sites and even give you a report on where the users (kids) are trying to go.

If I had kids, it would be well worth the cost of the Pro. version, just for that one app.

OpenDNS is widely used, I use it.

It does have web-site blocking capabilities.

I have several customers with children in the house that use the family computer, unsupervised.

For those PC's, I've installed a program called "Hosts Manager", which allows me to download a list
of BAD web sites, which it then adds to the HOST file in the computer.

Before a browser will go to a web site, it checks with the HOST file and if the site is not listed there
then the site will be acquired. If the site IS in the list, the browser will be blocked from going there
and the old familiar "Site Not Found" message will be displayed.

There are other programs as well that "Immunize" your browsers, by adding a bad sites list to the
HOST file. Spybot Search & Destroy and Spyware Blaster are two that I use.

There are no children that EVER use my computer, so I've stopped using 'Hosts Manager' on my own
PC, but I still install it for my customers who want that extra level of protection.

Like many Protection programs, it's not a "do it once and forget it" program. Like AV and AS software
it needs to be updated at least weekly.

The program downloads the latest list of BAD sites and incorporates them into your HOST file, removing
any duplicate entries. It's really kind'a neat!
It also allows you to shut off the HOST file, if you really need to get to some site that it's blocking.
(don't tell the kids that though)
