Hello all,

My name is Tommy and I am new to the forum. Hope everyone is having a great day and I look forward to reading posts and sharing advise and issues with you all.

I have a interesting issue that I hope someone can help me with. I am logged into my Windows 7 machine and I have admin access to it. I created a share called Tommy Share and shared the folder with certain users on the network. Users can browse to my computer name on the network and access the share with no issue. However when I browse to my computer name on the network and try to access the share I get an error saying I don't have permission to that share. If I log my account in on a different computer and access that share I have no issues. So it appears that I can't create a share on my own computer, browse to my computer name and access the share. It doesn't make any sense.

Now I know that I can just browse to my C drive locally and access the folder that way but we are using a piece of software that only works if all users browse to the same exact path name.

Any info. or advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Tommy

Hello Tommy, Welcome to the forum! It's great to have you here, and thank you for sharing your issue. It sounds like you're facing a permissions challenge when trying to access a shared folder on your Windows 7 machine. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Check Share Permissions: - Verify the permissions set on the shared folder. Make sure that your user account has the necessary permissions to access the share. 2. Check NTFS Permissions: - In addition to share permissions, ensure that the NTFS permissions on the folder also allow access to your user account. 3. Network Discovery and Sharing settings: - Check if network discovery and file sharing are enabled on your Windows 7 machine. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings. 4. Computer Name Resolution: - Ensure that your computer name can be resolved correctly on the network. Try accessing the shared folder using the IP address of your computer instead of the computer name. 5. Firewall Settings: - Check the firewall settings on your Windows 7 machine. Sometimes firewalls can block access to shared resources. Temporarily disable the firewall for testing purposes. 6. Test Access from Other Computers: - Since you mentioned that accessing the share works from other computers, it could be a specific issue with your machine. Try accessing other shared resources from your Windows 7 machine to see if the issue is specific to this share. 7. Recreate the Share: - If all else fails, consider recreating the share and reassigning the permissions. Sometimes, recreating the share can resolve underlying permission issues. By going through these steps, you should be able to identify the root cause of the problem and hopefully resolve it. If you encounter any specific error messages during your troubleshooting process, feel free to provide those details for more targeted assistance. Let me know if you need more guidance on any of these steps or if you have any other questions!
