In Windows Vista's Photo Viewer(?) I could add meta text (subtitles) to photos. But not in Windows 8.1.
In Finnish the program is called 'Windowsin valokuvien katselu' ('Windows Photo Viewer').

I find such development truly sad. And I only hope that I haven't yet managed to find the correct box to tick to enable the subtitles in Windows 8.1. Is there such a box somewhere?

In Windows 8.1 and its integrated Photos app, the feature to add text directly within the app itself to photos, as a caption or subtitle, is not directly available. The Photos app in Windows 8.1 is more focused on viewing and organizing photos rather than editing them extensively. If you're looking to add text, captions, or subtitles to photos in Windows 8.1, you might need to use a separate photo editing software. Here are a few suggestions on how you can achieve this: 1. Third-Party Photo Editing Software: - Utilize third-party photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or others that provide extensive editing features, including the ability to add text or captions to photos. 2. Online Tools: - You can explore online tools like Canva, Pixlr, or even online versions of Photoshop that allow you to add text to photos. These online tools are usually easy to use and can provide the functionality you're looking for. 3. Microsoft Paint: - While Microsoft Paint is not as robust as dedicated photo editing software, it can still be used to add text to photos. Simply open your image in Paint, select the Text tool, and add your captions directly onto the image. 4. Windows 10 Photos App: - In Windows 10, the Photos app offers more editing features compared to its Windows 8.1 counterpart. You might find more editing capabilities, including adding text, in the Windows 10 Photos app. By using one of these alternative methods, you should be able to add text, subtitles, or captions to your photos in Windows 8.1.
