If you run Windows 8 on a desktop PC you are going to want to tweak Internet Explorer to avoid the Metro version of the browser.

There doesnt seem to be a way to do this. Even if you follow these directions:
Open links in the Windows 8 desktop Internet Explorer every time | TechRepublic

And select the button that says 'Choose how to open your links: "Always in Internet Explorer on the desktop"... YET STILL links open to internet explorer windows 8 app often. Notably if you are browsing the people 'whats new' section and you see tweets with links in them. You click them and it opens the dreaded app.
