Hi there,
I work at a public library that uses the Pharos Reservation System for patrons using computers. Recently, we bought several new public computers using Windows 7 and installed Pharos on them. However, when patrons make computer reservations, the assigned computer already has their library card numbers on the screen. (Before, a patron was required to type in the number at the assigned computer). This is causing an issue, as some patrons are logging into computers assigned to someone else, and writing down other patrons' library card numbers. Do any of you who use Pharos at your libraries had this issue? Is it a problem on the Windows end or on the Pharos end? (It only happens with Windows 7 machines)
Thank-you very much.

Solution
It seems like you are facing an issue where library card numbers are automatically displayed on the screen when patrons make computer reservations using the Pharos Reservation System on Windows 7 computers. This can indeed lead to a privacy concern if patrons are able to access others' library card numbers. To address this issue, it's important to investigate whether the problem lies with the Pharos Reservation System, Windows 7, or a combination of both. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Contact Pharos Support: Reach out to Pharos support to inquire about this issue. They may have encountered similar situations and could provide specific guidance on how to address the automatic...

They may have encountered similar situations and could provide specific guidance on how to address the automatic display of library card numbers. 2. Review Pharos Configuration: Check the settings and configurations within the Pharos Reservation System. There may be an option or setting that controls the display of library card numbers. Adjusting these settings could potentially resolve the issue. 3. Windows 7 Security Settings: Verify the security settings on the Windows 7 computers. Ensure that user permissions are configured correctly to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. 4. Update Software: Ensure that both Pharos and Windows 7 are running the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, software updates can address known issues and vulnerabilities. 5. User Authentication: Consider implementing a user authentication process where patrons are required to enter a password or some form of additional verification along with their library card number to access the assigned computer. By taking these steps and investigating the settings and configurations of both Pharos and Windows 7, you may be able to identify the root cause of the issue and implement appropriate measures to enhance the privacy and security of the library card numbers for your patrons. If the issue persists, reaching out to Pharos support for further assistance would be advisable.
