Is this what occurred to me? I was doing nothing special on my PC when this fake BSOD popped up on my screen. (Fake because there is a telephone number - Microsoft says a number is never supposed to be on a BSOD.) I called the number and a character told me I had been hacked but he could fix it for $3,000. He said don't try to get online with a different device because it would be contaminated. I said I had two tablets that were already connected and there was no problem. He said he had done something to hold off on the additioal contamination. I hung up.

I found a workaround and everything is working fine.

Is Microsoft interested in tracking down what happened or is this just regular fun and games?
