I have a Sony Vaio running W7, which works absolutely fine when in my own home wireless network.

However when I go to a friend’s house, I keep getting an error message saying:

“Windows cannot communicate with the device or resource. (Primary DNS Server)”

I am able to connect to their network, but unable to access the internet.

However I have noted that if I plug my laptop into their router via an Ethernet cable then the internet works fine.

I have googled this problem - and it does seem to be quite common - however I haven't as yet found a definite fix for the problem that works for myself.

Any input or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you,

Andrew

Have a look at your wireless adapter properties - control panel, networking & sharing centres, change adapter settings, right click on wireless settings, select propertes, left click on Internet Protocol IPV4, click on properties. Check the options to obtain IP address and DNS server address automatically.
