When I want to open a file or folder from programs I go oftentimes to a menu
File--->Open
Which in turn calls the default FileOpenDialog dialog box.
This worked successfully on 64bit Win7 here in the past.
However when I do this in certain (but not all!!!) Office programs like Excel 2007 now then
the call is runnning forever (=the cursor indicates in progress).
Whats wrong?
No, I don't have open network connections.
Curiously for other programs it works.
Is it due to one of the last Microsoft patches?

- Ensure that your Office 2007 installation is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Microsoft releases updates to fix known issues.
- Your antivirus software might be scanning the dialog creation process, causing delays. Try disabling real-time scanning temporarily to check if it resolves the issue.
- Run a System File Checker scan to check for and repair corrupted system files that could be impacting the File Open dialog.
- Perform a clean boot of your system to rule out any third-party software conflicts.
- Check if any recent Windows updates might have caused the issue. Rolling back recent updates can help isolate the problem.
- Ensure that Office 2007 is running in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Right-click on the Excel shortcut, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, set compatibility mode.
- If all else fails, consider reinstalling Office 2007 to ensure a clean installation. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with the File Open dialog in certain Office programs on your Windows 7 system.
