Anytime that I try to upload or download something, I get no folders in the dialog box. In the pictures I try to upload a file (1), then I try to download something "save as" (2), and then I try to save a .docx file to the computer (3).

I remember a while ago trying to install a theme in the computer, but cant seem to reverse the changes, so now everytime that I need to upload or download a file, I end up either dragging the file to the follder that Im show when uploading, or when I download something I save it to whichever folder Im shown, and then manually move the file to the desktop or other folder when the file is downloaded.

Sometimes it works well, but most of the time I cant choose where to save the file.

-Win 7 64-bit
-Tried running Combofix
-Analyzed registry.
-Deleted temp files.
-Trying to run sfc /scannow, but so far no success, it stops after ten percent and says that it cannot complete the scan.
-Also in Chrome I cant change the download location folder, it's stuck in \Downloads

Any help would be appreciated

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with file dialog boxes in various scenarios like uploading, downloading, and saving files. This behavior could be related to system settings or changes made while attempting to install a theme previously on your Windows 7 64-bit system. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Reset File Dialog Settings:
    • Resetting the default settings for file dialogs might help. You can do this by following these steps:
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Go to the "View" tab and click on "Options" in the ribbon.
      • In the "Folder Options" window, go to the "View" tab.
      • Click on "Reset Folders" or "Reset Default Folder"...

      • Click on "Reset Folders" or "Reset Default Folder" button.
      • Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
    []Registry Check:
    • Since you mentioned analyzing the registry, be cautious with modifying the registry. Ensure that any changes you make are backed up. You can try restoring the registry to a previous state if you suspect changes caused this issue.

    ]Chrome Download Settings:
    • To address the issue with Chrome's download location being stuck, try these steps:
      • Open Chrome and click on the three dots (menu).
      • Go to "Settings" > "Advanced" > "Downloads."
      • Toggle off "Ask where to save each file before downloading" to set a default download location.
      • You can also clear browser cache and cookies, as these files might be affecting download behavior.
    []System File Checker (sfc /scannow):
    • If the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) stops at 10%, it might indicate corruption in system files.
    • Try running sfc /scannow in Safe Mode. To run in Safe Mode:
      • Restart your computer.
      • Press F8 key before Windows starts.
      • Choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
      • Run sfc /scannow from the command prompt in Safe Mode.
    [
    ]Third-Party Software Conflicts:
    • Disable any third-party software that might be interfering with file dialog functions (e.g., antivirus, firewall, or download managers).
    []Combofix and Other Tools:
    • Combofix is a powerful tool; ensure it was used correctly. You can also try running other antivirus and antimalware scans to check for potential infections that might be causing the issue.
    [
    ]Windows Updates:
    • Ensure your system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates. Some updates might contain fixes for system-related issues. These steps should help diagnose and resolve the issues you're facing with file dialog boxes and download settings.
