You would need to your desktop icons to display in list mode instead of icon mode. There is no built it way to do this with Windows 7. Maybe there are 3rd party apps for that.
If you want to temporarily disable the picture, you can add your own extension after the .jpeg (ex: .jpeg.me) and then the picture won't show, but you won't be able to open the picture by double clicking on it until you delete that extra extension or right click it and choose open with...
