File handling very slow and laggy Windows 7 and NAS (or Windows-Server)

Three Windows 7 64bit and to WinXP 32bit workstations connected with TurboNAS or Windows Server ( we tried both..no difference)
several issues:
1) Data transferrate is just fine 30-50MB/s okay no complaints
2) Windows 7 explorer very laggy .. right clicking on large TIFF files concerns 5 to 10 seconds delay on to property windows open
..... !!! very different with WIN XP no delay property windows opens up immediately
3) Windows 7 Explorer refreshes every second !!!!! always never stops refreshing... collecting hundred of megabytes of data
please see the attached screenshot
......!!! not at all with Win XP
4) "open" and "save as" within Photoshop on Windows 7 is up to 10 times slower compared with Win XP but not the saving process itself ** its just the everlasting waiting for dialogue boxes.

one more remarable issue:if you try to open a large image in Photoshop, in taskmanager the explorer.exe proccess grows until 400-1800MB a just in the moment it shrinks back to even zero Photoshop really starts loading !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I did:
disable search
disable 128-bit encryption
netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
disable Remote Differential Compression

NONE OF THIS PROBLEMS OCCURE WITH Win XP ..why?

any ideas what's wrong

kind regards manfred

Solution
Manfred, Based on the issues you've described with Windows 7 and your NAS or Windows Server setup, the slow and laggy performance may be due to several factors. Here are some possible reasons and solutions to address the problems you're facing: 1. Windows 7 Explorer Lag: - Potential Cause: The delay in right-clicking on large TIFF files and slow opening of property windows could be related to processing or thumbnail generation in Windows Explorer. - Solution: Try disabling thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer by changing the folder view to list or details view instead of thumbnails. This can improve the responsiveness of Explorer. 2. Constant Explorer Refresh: - Potential Cause: The constant refreshing of...
2. Constant Explorer Refresh: - Potential Cause: The constant refreshing of Windows 7 Explorer might be due to a conflict or configuration issue with the network or NAS drives. - Solution: You can try mapping network drives instead of accessing them directly through Network in Windows Explorer. This might reduce the constant refreshing issue. 3. Slow "Open" and "Save As" Dialog Boxes in Photoshop: - Potential Cause: The delay in the dialog boxes within Photoshop on Windows 7 could be related to network latency or conflicts with the network shares. - Solution: Try mapping network drives for the NAS or Windows Server shares in Windows 7 and see if that improves the speed of opening and saving files in Photoshop. 4. Explorer Process Growth in Task Manager: - Potential Cause: The explorer.exe process growing in memory usage when opening large images could be due to memory leaks or inefficient handling of files by the Explorer process. - Solution: Restarting the Windows Explorer process or updating to the latest Windows 7 updates can sometimes resolve memory-related issues. 5. Performance Discrepancy Between Windows 7 and Windows XP: - Potential Cause: Differences in how Windows 7 and Windows XP handle file operations, networking, or memory management could be contributing to the performance gap. - Solution: Ensure that Windows 7 is fully updated with the latest patches and drivers to address any performance issues that have been resolved in updates since its release. By implementing these suggestions and possibly performing additional troubleshooting steps specific to your environment, you may be able to address the slow and laggy performance issues you are experiencing with Windows 7 and your NAS or Windows Server setup.
