Hello,
I am using Windows 7 Pro and have begun experimenting with speech recognition. My primary interest is in using the commands, but I can't seem to get to first base after trying three different mics to get it to respond to my voice.
I followed the setup instructions step by step for configuring the mic, volume levels, voice training, etc. I set the speech recognition to begin at Start Up and restarted, but it did not recognize my voice.
As I understand it, there is to be some sort of control that appears as a monitor for voice and I see no such item.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hello Jake, It's great to hear that you're exploring speech recognition on Windows 7 Professional. Let's troubleshoot the issue you're experiencing with getting speech recognition to respond to your voice. Here are some steps and suggestions you can try to address the problem: 1. Check Microphone Settings: - Ensure that the microphone you're using is correctly connected to your computer. - Check the microphone settings in Windows to make sure it is set as the default recording device. 2. Verify Microphone Functionality: - Test the microphone with other applications to confirm that it's working properly. - Check the microphone on a different device to rule out any hardware issues. 3. Adjust Microphone Levels: - Make sure that the microphone levels are set appropriately in Windows. - You can adjust the microphone levels by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray, selecting "Recording devices," choosing your microphone, and adjusting the levels. 4. Speech Recognition Training: - Re-run the speech recognition setup wizard to ensure that your voice is properly set up in the system. - Perform voice training again to improve recognition accuracy. 5. Check Speech Recognition Settings: - Verify that speech recognition is enabled and set up correctly. - Look for the Speech Recognition control panel or settings to ensure that it is configured to recognize your voice commands. 6. Monitoring for Voice Control: - The control you mentioned that acts as a monitor for voice input might not always be visible on the desktop. It usually works in the background. - Check for any indication in the system tray or taskbar that shows speech recognition is active. 7. Restart Windows Speech Recognition: - Restart the Windows Speech Recognition service to see if that resolves the issue. - You can do this by opening the Services application (services.msc), locating "Windows Speech Recognition" service, and restarting it. 8. Update Audio Drivers: - Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause microphone issues. If after trying these steps, you're still facing issues with speech recognition, please provide more details about any specific error messages or behaviors you encounter. This will help in further troubleshooting the problem effectively.
