Windows 7 Text cursor (caret) moves by itself

Dear All,

I don't know enough about computers to know if this is a software, hardware or what problem.

The problem is that the text cursor (caret) - not the mouse arrow - moves to the left when I'm typing. Sometimes I can't even force it to the right. This happens in Internet Explorer, Word, other fora, etc., and has been going on since yesterday. It is irregular: sometimes it happens, sometimes it goes away for a while.

I have run antimalware programmes and it has not made any difference.

Now my flatmate has the problem.

I have windows 7 and an HP Pavilion laptop.

Any ideas? Since I'm a translator, this is crucial for my business as well as everything else.

Try reinstalling the touchpad drivers from the manufacturers website.
