Hi

My PC is installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit, and i have a 1.7Gb HD WMV VC-1 file. When i attempt to playback on Windows Media Player it takes a long to time to seek/skip forward. I also installed GOM player and VLC, both have trouble playing the file, VLC actually crashed on one occasion.

I am sure my PC is capable of carrying out this task, it recieved a 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index.

What could be the problem?

Thank You

NOTE: I have not installed any codec packs.

Solution
It seems like you're facing playback issues with a large WMV VC-1 file on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Here are a few steps you can take to address the problem: 1. Codec Issue: Since you mentioned that you haven't installed any codec packs, the lack of appropriate codecs might be causing the playback problems. WMV files often require specific codecs to be decoded properly. You can try installing a codec pack like K-Lite Codec Pack or CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) to ensure that the necessary codecs are available for playback. 2. Performance: Even though your PC received a Windows Experience Index score of 5.9, which suggests decent performance, the seek/skip issues might still occur due to system resource...

Performance: Even though your PC received a Windows Experience Index score of 5.9, which suggests decent performance, the seek/skip issues might still occur due to system resource limitations. Playing large video files smoothly can be demanding, especially without proper hardware acceleration. Updating your graphics drivers and ensuring that your system has sufficient RAM can help improve playback performance. 3. Player Settings: Sometimes, adjusting the settings within the media player can improve playback performance. For example, in VLC, you can change the caching value to ensure smoother playback of large files. 4. File Corruption: Check if the WMV file is not corrupted. Try playing other WMV files to see if the issue persists. If the problem is specific to this file, it might be corrupted, causing playback issues. 5. Alternative Players: If Windows Media Player, GOM Player, and VLC are struggling to play the file smoothly, you can try other multimedia players like MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) or PotPlayer. These players are known for their wide codec support and performance. 6. Hardware Acceleration: Enabling hardware acceleration in your media player settings can offload some of the video decoding tasks to your GPU, which can improve playback performance. Try these steps to see if they help resolve the playback issues you're experiencing with the WMV VC-1 file. If the problem persists, let me know so we can explore other possible solutions.
