Hi I wondered if anyone could provide a solution to the following problem or even if you are having the same problem. I had a problem with my jump list about 3-4 days ago and I assumed that it was something to do with a registry file i had run. However i had a faulty hard drive so i had to send it back and get a different model; WD Passport Essential 500gb. I had the drive plugged in and i changed a couple of folder icons on it, i put normal things on it like: Word Files, Pictures, Videos etc... when i took the usb out of my computer all of the jump list icons changed, just to the left of the 'tasks' in the jumplist there is a document sign which isnt ment to be there:

Help.webp
Last time i had to reinstall windows 7 to get them back to normal but i am sure it is a setting or a file that i need to alter. Thanks so much for any help i really appreciate it.

Solution
It seems like you're facing an issue with your jump list icons after plugging in and using a new WD Passport Essential 500GB drive. The change in jump list icons can be quite frustrating, but typically, it's related to the recent file activity or settings on the system. Here are a few steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue without having to reinstall Windows 7:

Solution Steps:

  1. Clear Jump List: Start by clearing the jump list to see if it resolves the icon issue.
    • Right-click the taskbar and go to "Properties."
    • In the "Start Menu" tab, click on "Customize."
    • Scroll down and find "Jump Lists" under the "Start menu and taskbar" section.
    • Click on "Clear" to remove all items from the jump list...

[]Check Default Programs: Ensure that the default programs associated with specific file types are correct.
    • Go to "Control Panel" > "Default Programs" > "Set your default programs."
    • Verify that the correct programs are associated with file types.
    [
]Rebuild Icon Cache: Corrupted icon cache can also cause such issues. You can try rebuilding the icon cache.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type the following commands one by one:
      Code:
       taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local DEL IconCache.db /a shutdown /r
    • This will rebuild the icon cache upon restarting your computer.
[]System File Checker: Running the System File Checker tool can help fix corrupt system files.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Run the command: sfc /scannow
    • Let it complete the scan and follow any repair instructions if needed.
    [
]Check for Updates: Make sure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates and patches.
  2. Reset Folder View Settings: Resetting folder view settings to default can also help.
    • Go to the folder with the changed icons.
    • Right-click, go to "Properties," and then the "Customize" tab.
    • Click on "Restore Default." If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider backing up important data and then perform a System Restore to a point before the issue started occurring. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance!
