so i am trying to upgrade from VISTA to Window7. I have a compatibility issue. Window7 will not install with Microsoft OneCare installed. So I removed it using Add and Remove Programs. Well no luck. So I downloaded the OneCare Cleanup Utility. NO LUCK. I tried the clean up twice with shutdown between each try. I am lost. Can you recommend something to do.....

Regards

George

It seems like you're facing issues with upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 due to compatibility problems with Microsoft OneCare. Since you've already tried removing it through the Add and Remove Programs feature and the OneCare Cleanup Utility without success, here are a few additional steps you can try:
  1. Check for Residual Files:
    • After running the cleanup utility, check if there are any residual files left behind. Sometimes, manual deletion might be required.
    []Disable Services:
    • Try disabling any Microsoft OneCare services that might still be running in the background. You can do this by:
      • Pressing Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
      • Look for any service related to OneCare and disable it.
    [
    ]Registry Cleanup:
    • Be cautious with this step as editing the registry can potentially harm your system if done incorrectly.
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software.
    • Look for any Microsoft OneCare related keys and delete them (only if you are confident in what you are doing).
    []Safe Mode Removal:
    • Try running the OneCare Cleanup Utility in Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode:
      • Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly before the Windows logo appears.
      • Select "Safe Mode" from the advanced boot options.
    [
    ]Reinstall Windows OneCare (Optional):
    • If you have access to the Windows OneCare installer, you could try reinstalling it and then uninstall it again before attempting the Windows 7 upgrade.
  2. Contact Microsoft Support:
    • If all else fails, you might want to reach out to Microsoft Support for specific guidance on resolving the OneCare removal issue. Try these steps carefully, and remember to back up your important data before making any major changes to your system. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any difficulties!
