Windows 8 Update page not loading

Hi, I have windows 8.1. I go to PC settings to install remaining updates but when I go to update and recovery the page never loads. It just shows the loading symbol. it has been doing this for a while now. I will attach a screenshot of what I am talking about. I've also tried troubleshooting. It said update problems were fixed, but no, they weren't. Can someone please help? Thank you.

In windows 8/8.1 you can still go to the control panel and go to updates and update that way. I always use that method in 8/8.1 and never use the PC settings update path. In windows 10, you're forced to use their/that PC settings update method.

okay thank you, i know how to get to the control panel, but where do i go from there?

Once you pull up the control panel, click on Security and System. You should see check for updates in there.
