Solution
It seems like you are encountering a permissions issue with your shared 1TB WD external hard drive in a Windows 7 environment, where even though the share shows up, you are getting a "you do not have permissions" error when trying to access it. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Check Share Permissions:

  1. Verify Share Permissions:
    • Check the share permissions on the external hard drive to ensure that the "Everyone," "Administrators," and "Users" groups have the appropriate permissions set for the share.

      Check Security Permissions:

    []Security Tab:

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Check Share Permissions:

  1. Verify Share Permissions:
    • Check the share permissions on the external hard drive to ensure that the "Everyone," "Administrators," and "Users" groups have the appropriate permissions set for the share.

      Check Security Permissions:

    []Security Tab:
    • Go to the security tab of the external hard drive's properties and check the permissions for the groups mentioned earlier (Everyone, Administrators, and Users).

      Update Permissions:

    [
    ]Update Permissions:
    • Try updating the permissions again for the mentioned groups. You can try removing and re-adding the permissions to see if that resolves the issue.

      Network Sharing Settings:

    []Network Sharing Settings:
    • Ensure that network discovery and file sharing are turned on in the network and sharing settings of Windows 7.

      Reboot and Test:

    [
    ]Reboot Machines:
    • Sometimes, a simple reboot of the machines can resolve permission-related issues. Try rebooting both the machine sharing the drive and the machines trying to access it.

      Additional Considerations:

    • Firewall Settings:
    • Check the firewall settings on the machines to ensure that they are not blocking access to the shared drive.
    • Check Antivirus Software:
    • Antivirus software can sometimes interfere with file sharing. Temporarily disable antivirus software to see if it's causing the issue.
    • Check Group Policy:
    • Group Policy settings may also affect file sharing and permissions. Ensure that no restrictive policies are in place.
    • Consistent Workgroup/Domain:
    • Make sure all machines are on the same workgroup or domain to facilitate sharing.

      Permissions Verification:

To further diagnose the issue, you can:
    • Check Event Logs:
    • Look for any relevant error messages in the Windows Event Viewer that might provide more information about the permission denied issue. If after trying these steps the issue persists, please provide any additional details or error messages you may have encountered for further assistance.
