HDMI connection to Toshiba flat screen output from HP, Windows 7 and Nvidia graphics. Excellent operation except that if I switch the LCD from the HDMI of the PC to another input, i.e. to watch TV or DVD etc. and then sometime later come back, the PC shows nothing but a screen full of "static". The desktop is gone, although I can still operate the computer (without video) so it is not locked - only the video output has failed.
This does the same thing if I boot up without the LCD selected for the HDMI input from the PC or when I awake from sleep mode without the HDMI for the PC selected.
Has anyone seen this, or aware of a possible fix?

Solution
It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the HDMI connection between your HP PC running Windows 7 with Nvidia graphics and your Toshiba flat screen. The problem occurs when you switch the LCD from the HDMI input of the PC to another input (like watching TV or a DVD) and then return to the PC's HDMI input, resulting in a screen full of "static" with no desktop display. This issue could be related to the graphics driver or the communication between the PC and the display. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix this problem: 1. Update Graphics Drivers: - Make sure your Nvidia graphics drivers on your HP PC are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues. You can download the...

You can download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website. 2. Check HDMI Cable and Connections: - Ensure that the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the PC and the Toshiba flat screen. Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out any issues with the current cable. 3. Adjust Power Settings: - Sometimes, power settings can affect how devices interact after waking from sleep mode. Check the power settings on your PC and ensure they are configured correctly for your usage scenario. 4. Monitor Settings: - Check the display settings on your PC. Make sure the correct display is selected as the primary monitor and that the resolution and refresh rate are compatible with your Toshiba flat screen. 5. Graphics Settings: - Access the Nvidia Control Panel on your PC and check the display settings there. Ensure that the settings are appropriate for your display and that there are no conflicting configurations. 6. Try a Different HDMI Port: - If your Toshiba flat screen has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting the PC to a different HDMI port to see if the issue persists. 7. Reset Display Settings: - You can try resetting the display settings on your PC to default values and then reconfigure them according to your preferences. If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be helpful to check for any specific firmware updates for your Toshiba flat screen or contact Nvidia support for further assistance. It's also a good idea to see if other users have reported similar issues in forums or communities related to Nvidia graphics cards and Windows 7.
